U.S. equities advanced during the holiday-shortened week, with several benchmarks closing at fresh record highs as investor sentiment was buoyed by falling oil prices, growing hopes for a U.S.-Iran agreement and continued strength in AI-linked stocks. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the major indexes, rising 2.39%, followed by the S&P 500, which gained 1.43%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added a more modest 0.90%. Across the Atlantic, the pan-European STOXX Europe 600 edged 0.14% higher as investors continued to look for signs that diplomacy could ultimately restore oil and gas flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Treasury yields declined across most maturities as lower energy prices and reported progress in U.S.-Iran negotiations helped ease inflation concerns. Treasuries posted their best week since the U.S.-Iran war began, with Brent crude sliding 11% to $92 a barrel.
